Biography of Xin Chong
Xin Chong was born in Beijing, P.R.China. Graduated from Beijing Union University and gained a bachelor degree in Electronic System and Engineer in 1985. After two years work on hardware development, he went on to pursue his further study in Beijing Post & Telecommunication University and earned his master degree on E&E in 1990. His undergraduate final-year project is Moog Music Synthesizer. His postgraduate thesis is Multi-DSP System for Data Communication. He also developed "Digital Music System" on IBM PC when pursuing master degree. The system was honoured as the third prize of "Science & Technology Achievement from University Student" in 1988.
His interested areas are DSP(Digital Signal Processing), Linux/Embedded Linux, Auditory Display, Computer Music, HCI(Human Computer Interaction), MPEG4/H264 and Astronomy/telescope. He was the earliest person who pursues sound synthesis and computer music territory in China back to 1985. From 1990 to 1994, He joined a new start up company, designed and developed the first MIDI Music Composer device in Beijing, China. He was honoured as "The Fourth Session Beijing Excellent Youth Engineer" in 1993 for this achievement. In 1995, he moved to Singapore and acted as chief engineer in leading and developing several industrial projects: Automatic Car Park System, which was installed in 15 buildings in Singapore in 1996~1998; After that he led a team to deploy the Flight Information TV Display System for Singapore Changi International Airport in 1998. By the end of 1998, he joined Kent Ridge Digital Labs, Singapore top research lab, where he involved in developing packet based video conferencing system, which includes video/audio codec, capture, render and RTP/IP transport. Then he initiated a new project: Audio User Interface that addresses the problem when user's main task is not computing, and using rich audio feedback as "display". This technology might have big impact in mobile computing area. This effort is still going on. Currently, he is working with company on MPEG2/4 video project using TI C62x/64x DSP in Sunnyvale, center of Silicon Valley in California.
I Ching (YiJing) is also an attractive area to him. He
